Richard Cutler was born in Marshfield and was a 1960 graduate of Auburndale High School. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan in 1965 with a degree in forestry. He was inducted in the US Army in 1965 and received training at Fort Leonard Wood. In 1966 he began his tour in Vietnam with C Company 1st Battalion of the 52nd and then the 198th Infantry. After a year of continuous service, Specialist Cutler was discharged in October, 1968.
He married Sharon O’Reilly in 1968 and together they had four children. Dick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed hunting, fishing and polka dancing. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Rhinelander as a silviculturist, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters and in 1988 he was awarded a trip to Austria, Switzerland and Germany for his dedication and his accomplishments in forestry. He was one of only 9 foresters in the United States chosen for the honor. Family and friends were very important to Dick.
Dick passed away in 2001 at the age of 50 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is missed by his wife Sharon, his children, Kim, Brian and Gary and their families and his two sisters Lucie and Kathy and their families and many friends and relatives.
