Stories

Louis Seidl
"They rest in peace, so that we may live in peace." Louis A. Seidl was one of many World War I Vets that lost their lives trying to save ours. They fought and fought until eventually they fought so hard that they lost their lives because of how much they wanted the rest of us to have our freedom, and lives with all the rights that we deserve.

Louis Seidl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Seidl on June 18th, 1891 in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Louis lived a normal life as a child and never expected to go into combat, and especially not lose his life. Louis's father Joseph, was also in combat. He had fought before, while Louis was a child. Unfortunately, both father and son died in combat in World War I. Louis had a first class rating, and his father was a private.

Louis served with Company A, 127th infantry, 32nd Division. This company was formed in Marshfield, Wisconsin. The men in this company learned all that they needed to know about war there. They had been learning all of this a lot earlier then needed. So they were extremely savvy with the whole war scene. The boys were extremely well trained, and ready for war.

After training in Marshfield, they went to Camp McArthur in Waco, Texas. They went through more training and became better soldiers. They were sent to Camp McArthur August 21st, 1917, and left January 21st, 1918. They were finally called to battle and most went as leaders, or captains because of their great knowledge of war.

They were so good that they were deployed to the front line at Chateau Thierry. Through August 4th-7th, 1918, Sgt. Joseph Seidl took command. Company A took part in five battles from May 18th, 1918 to November 11, 1918. Louis was placed as a Private, while he was at war, along with many other soldiers. Unfortunately, Louis lost his life due to battle wounds as he was fighting in Sergy, France, August 3rd, 1918.

Unfortunately, Louis did not live to see his children or even a happy ending to his life. But, he did die fighting for our freedom and because of that, he was a natural born hero.

I know that all of the soldiers were willing to risk their lives in order to save ours, and that is just what they did. I know that I am extremely grateful for them. Louis Seidl did something that not very many people are willing to do, and he did it with all his pride and dignity, and I couldn't have asked him to do it any better.

Louis Seidl is a hero!
