The Heroic Life of Jason Greeno

Sept. 4th, 1985-Aug. 30th, 2006

Jason Greeno was born on September 4th, 1985 to Scott and Judy Greeno, along with his two brothers and three sisters. While he was attending Lincoln High School he was a member of the swim team as well as the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers. He graduated from Lincoln high school in 2004. Some of his hobbies included water skiing, disc golf, hunting, fishing, and rock climbing. Jason was a very active person, as well as caring. He was hardly seen without a smile, never had a bad word to say, always willing to try something new, and he never gave up when trying to succeed in his goals.

Jason was stationed in Kuwait since November as a member of Battery B of the first Battalion, 120th Field Artillery protecting military installations. He had been on active duty since January 28th, 2005. On August 26th 2006 Jason flew into Chicago for a two week leave from Kuwait.

Jason was excited to come home and go skiing with his family in their clubs’ co- show in Waukegan, IL for their sponsors’. He learned how to do a helicopter jump right before he left for Kuwait. The Saturday before he passed away he skied a barefoot line and made two helis'. After returning to the dock he had the biggest grin on his face. His wonderful smile will stay in his families’ memory for the rest of their lives.

Tragedy struck on August 28th 2006 when Jason Greeno was air lifted to St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield, WI. Jason had been in a car accident and because of major head trauma he was put in a drug induced coma. Two days later Jason was showing no brain activity and doctors determined that the injuries he was suffering from were beyond recovery. Jasons’ family knew that his wish was not to be on life support and he would want his organs donated. He made a true hero of himself that day.

Jason Greeno has impacted lives in many ways. Because of his great health and young age he was able to help up to 142 people with his donation. Jason died just a few days before his 21st birthday which should have been one of the best days of his life. Jasons’ aunt has been quoted saying,” I am SO proud of Jason, not only because he fought for his country, but because he also was an organ donor.” Let this man teach us all a lesson. We need to live every day as if it could be our last. You never know what could happen and you don’t want to have to live with regrets. As Jason's aunt also said, Just remember that we need to show our family and friends how much we love them and to live life to the fullest.”

Jason Greeno is a veteran from Wood County who fought in the Iraq War. He was extremely active. He loved to water ski, and was in the Rapids Aqua kiers. He was also involved in swim team and the stunt team at Lincoln High School. He loved running, music, disc golf, paintball, comics and just being outdoors. He once said that he loved rock climbing because “it puts you on the edge.” It was always Jason’s dream to go into the army right after high school to serve his country, and he did just that.

Jason Greeno was born September 4th, 1985 and died August 30th 20006, just days before his 21st birthday. Jason went to Kuwait for 9 months. HE served in Battery B of the First Battalion. He was so excited to come home that he had a countdown on his Myspace, along with many comments from his friends who were just as excited, and planning all of the things they were going to do when he returned.

Jason came home on leave in August. Four hours into his leave, Jason was in a tragic car accident. He was airlifted to Marshfield, placed into a drug induced coma and died two days later after his brain activity stopped and the doctors concluded that he would not recover from his injuries. He is survived by his dad, Scott Greeno and his mom Judy Schultz, step-father Blake Shultz, and two brothers and three sisters.

I believe that Jason is a hero for sacrificing the last nine months of his life serving our country, away from home, family and friends. Not only did Jason sacrifice his time and his life, he was an organ donor and was able to give 80% of his organs and helped over 142 people. Jason Greeno is still missed by many family members and friends. His friends remember him as outgoing, nice, caring, funny and most of all a hero.
